About Green Haven Stables

Scott McKay

Scott was born and raised in Alexander, Manitoba, where his parents owned and operated WKM Charolais Farm; known for showing cattle and farming grain. Scott began riding western and herding cattle on the family farm, eventually joining Pony Club and achieving his B2. This began a new adventure into the world of English riding as the family farm transitioned from grain and cattle, to horses. WKM Stables was born, and many years of breeding horses had begun.

In pursuit of his passion, Scott moved to Ontario to work with Mike Grinyer Stables as a groom and exercise rider. Through hard work and dedication, he eventually became a competition rider, showing horses for top trainers such as Mike Grinyer, Kim Kirton, and Bobby Reber.

Today, Scott is a proud owner and operator of the Green Haven Stables, which he established in Burlington, ON. He has since moved the business to a beautiful farm in Limehouse Ontario. Scott has over 30 years of coaching experience, and is an Equestrian Canada Licensed Coach. His expertise in coaching was recognized when he won the Hunter and Equitation Coach of the Year award in 2009.

Scott has been able to coach students internationally in FEI Children’s and Young Riders, while also producing horses from scratch to the FEI Grand Prix ring. He has sold many horses along the way, to renowned trainers such as Ian Millar and Mac Cone.

Although Scott’s parents, Wilf and Karen McKay, have retired from breeding horses, the bloodline continues with the latest foal from WKM Bit of a Pickle. Therefore, the next generation of sales horses from Green Haven Stables is something to watch out for because Scott has an excellent reputation for breeding and producing exceptional horses.

Scott has been proudy partnered with Antares Seller for many years. Please visit their website for more info:

Sydney Hewins

Syd’s journey in the world of equestrian sports is nothing short of inspiring. She is a gifted horsewoman who has shown unrelenting passion for developing young horses. Growing up on the vast prairies of Brandon, Manitoba gave Syd a unique perspective and love for nature, which she has translated into her work as a rider and horse trainer.

Syd’s achievements as a young rider include obtaining her B level in Pony Club, and winning the National Championship at CPC Show Jumping in Maple Ridge, B.C. Her focus then shifted to showing hunters and jumpers, spending summers as a working student at Dorsch Farms in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.

Syd has had a number of experiences working alongside top riders in the sport, including Grand Prix show jumper Jenni McCallister, and her husband Steve of Team McCallister. She spent a winter with them in California, where she gained FEI grooming experience. Syd even had the opportunity to groom for Jenni at the FEI World Cup Final in Lyon, France. After the World Cup, Syd spent time overseas in Denmark, Czech Republic, and Holland, where she honed her craft training and competing young sales horses.

Upon her return home, Syd joined WKM Stables in Alexander, Manitoba, as resident rider and trainer. Syd spent three glorious years building on her knowledge and skills. She fell in love with the WKM home-bred horses for their exceptional temperments, combined with superb athletic quality.

Syd has since embarked on a new chapter of her career moving to Ontario, where she joined forces with Scott McKay at Green Haven Stable. It was here that she reunited with the WKM horses from her past experiences, and her journey continues to be one filled with passion, dedication, and success. What sets Syd apart from others is her attention to detail and the unique approach she takes to horse development, creating a meaningful relationship with each horse she works with.

Syd has proudly partnered with Voltaire Design, a company renowned for producing one-of-a-kind saddles and beautiful tack. For more information click here.
